Head of DEA Chuck Rosenburg officially resigned via email Tuesday possibly after controversy stemming from criticisms of President Trump. While no official reason was given for the departure Rosenburg was recently quoted in a New York Times article suggesting the President “had little respect for the law.” Rosenburg also sent an email to all DEA employees in late July shortly after Trump suggested law enforcement “not be too nice” with suspects under arrest. He officially condemned the statements saying “We must earn and keep the public trust and continue to gold ourselves to the highest standard. Ours is an honorable profession and, so, we will act honorably.” This resignation comes just one year after another scandal ridden resignation of former DEA head Michele Leonhart, who retired over the mishandling of an internal sex scandal. We at California Weed Blog anxiously await the next candidate to step into the role and only hope they put their focus behind ending and adapting the senseless war on drugs.
